Please join us on Sunday, February 21st, from 3-5 pm, for the founding convention of POWER Metro!

POWER (Philadelphians Organized to Witness, Empower and Rebuild) is a group of congregations from all across the city, bringing people together across the lines of race, faith, income level, and neighborhood — people of faith committed to the work of bringing about justice in our city and our region. POWER Metro, a group of 15 congregations in Montgomery, Delaware, and Chester Counties, is now joining POWER Philadelphia to answer an intensifying call for change in the Philadelphia Metro region. This is the group that the Narberth Havurah would be a part of if we decide to become a member of the organization. The group’s priorities, set by the congregations that are already involved, include advocating for fair funding in Philadelphia schools, as well as working towards lifting people out of poverty through raising our state’s minimum wage. POWER aims to address the systemic causes of injustice in our community, and to be a strong force for needed change. We’d like to have as many of us show up at this founding convention as possible — to learn more about POWER and to help us then decide if this is a tikkun olam direction that we might want to devote ourselves to as a community, along with all the wonderful direct service activities that Cathy and Josh are making happen.

Please email Rabbi Simcha to let us know if you can join us this Sunday. Depending on who is coming and from where, perhaps we will all meet at someone’s home and carpool/caravan together. There will likely be close to one thousand people at this event — it should be really inspiring and informative — and we’d love whoever comes to experience it together as a community!
