Tu B'Shvat is traditionally known as the "Birthday of the Trees", a day of expressing gratitude for the blessings of the trees and their fruits, and the ways that we are nourished by the earth. Over time, it has expanded to be a day of also recognizing our obligation to care for all of creation, acknowledging the climate crisis, and committing to action.
Our celebration begins with a serene tree walk in the beautiful Merion Botanical Garden, starting at 10:00 AM at the park entrance near Merion Train Station. The twenty to thirty minute walk will end at a member's home, where we'll enjoy the fruits of the trees as we hear from Havurah member and Rebecca Rutstein, who will share a visual presentation of her work. An environmentally-focused multidiscplinary artist, Rebecca's work sheds light on hidden systems in the natural world to foster deeper connection in the face of our climate crisis. Her collaborations with oceanographers, ecologists, microbiologists, molecular scientists and planetary geologists give her a unique perspective and broad view of the interconnectedness of all things in nature.
Feel free to join us for both the walk from 10:00 am to 10:30 am, and the "mini Tu B'Shvat seder" and Rebecca's talk from 10:45 to 11:45, or just for one or the other! RSVP to rabbisimchazevit@gmail.com, and put “Tu B'Shvat RSVP” in the subject line, and the address of the members home will be sent to you.
